Budget 2016 is investing $2.2 million into our local schools to increase their capacity for the future says local MP Jonathan Young.
“I was with Minister Nikki Kaye today at Mangorei School when she announced the school will be benefitting from two new classrooms as part of Budget 2016,” Mr Young said.
“The Year 1 – 8 school has increased its student roll by around a third between 2012 and 2016.  An extra teaching space was provided in 2014 to help manage the growth, and now these two new classrooms will ensure the school has more space for its growing roll.  The new classrooms will be ready for the 2017 school year.
“Te Pi'ipi'inga Kakano Mai Rangiatea is also benefitting from the Budget with four new classrooms.
“The kura had a spike in new students this year after expanding to become a wharekura.  Expanding its capacity will give more local whānau the opportunity to choose Māori medium education for their children.
“These new classrooms are part of a broader investment across the country to ensure schools can meet growing rolls.”
The new classrooms will have high standards of acoustics, lighting, and ventilation. They will also feature the latest IT infrastructure to support digital learning.
“National is supporting New Zealand schools so they are fit for the future.  That means providing flexible spaces for more students, and ensuring they are innovative learning environments that enable students to achieve their potential,” Mr Young said.
