Businesses, researchers, and investors in our region get the chance on 2 October to find out more about setting up a regional research institute, local MP for New Plymouth Jonathan Young says.
As part of Budget 2015 the Government is investing $25 million over three years for new Regional Research Institutes to support innovation in the regions. It is expected that these new institutes will be established over the next four to five years.
“Our regional economies have different resources and strengths. These new institutes will deliver research that is of value to businesses, which will in turn create new jobs and lift incomes,” Mr Young says.
“The new institutes will stimulate leading edge, commercially focused, and industry relevant research in the regions such as Taranaki.
“This will help grow innovation and competitiveness by making the most of our local industry, technology, and economic development opportunities.
“I encourage all our regional players to attend the workshop at Venture Taranaki in New Plymouth to hear about the opportunities available and evaluate whether to make a case for a new Regional Research Institute in the region.”
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is leading the initiative.
